Private Cinema Rooms

Behind the scenes of a home cinema

Step inside one of our bespoke private cinemas as Emma and Angus take you through what it takes to create a truly immersive experience. In this video, we take you behind the scenes of a high-end cinema designed and delivered by New Wave AV, exploring everything from projection and Dolby Atmos audio to acoustic treatment, lighting, seating, and interior finishes. We considered every detail to deliver exceptional picture and sound while creating a beautifully finished room that feels as impressive as it performs.

The design is where the room truly comes together, as we consider every element from the outset. From room layout, sightlines, and speaker positioning, as well as acoustic treatments, lighting, seating, fabrics, and bespoke finishes. The result is a cinema where technology and interior design work seamlessly together.

Now see the finished cinema room

A private home cinema is about far more than simply installing a projector and surround sound. At New Wave AV, we design and deliver completely bespoke cinema rooms where picture, sound, acoustics, lighting, seating and interior finishes are engineered to work together.

From the initial room design and 3D visualisation through installation, acoustic treatment, calibration, and final handover, we consider every detail to create a truly immersive experience. Our extensive experience in high-performance residential cinema means we can achieve exceptional results without compromising the room’s aesthetics.

Working with leading brands including Sony, Artcoustic, Anthem, Kaleidescape, and Control4, we create private cinemas that are effortless to use, beautifully finished, and tailored to how you want to enjoy films, sport, and entertainment.

Sound & Vision

Exceptional cinema sound isn’t about simply making a room louder – it’s about creating an immersive, precisely controlled soundstage where every seat feels part of the action.

We design each cinema’s audio system around the room dimensions, seating positions, speaker locations and acoustic characteristics. Depending on the room, this could range from a 7.2.4 Dolby Atmos system through to more advanced configurations such as 9.4.4, with multiple subwoofers strategically positioned to deliver smoother, more consistent bass throughout the seating area.

The picture is at the heart of any great cinema experience. We carefully specify the projector, screen size, screen material, and viewing distances to suit each room’s dimensions and layout, rather than relying on a standard formula. With high-performance Sony laser projection and specialist cinema screens, we deliver exceptional 4K images with impressive detail, contrast, and colour accuracy.

Where appropriate, we use acoustically transparent screens, allowing the front speakers to sit behind the image, just as in a commercial cinema. This creates a more convincing experience, with dialogue and effects appearing to come directly from the action on screen. Masking systems can also adapt the visible screen area to different film aspect ratios, creating a beautifully framed image whatever you choose to watch.

Look & Feel

A private cinema should feel as exceptional as it performs. At New Wave AV, we consider the room’s interior design alongside its technical performance, creating a space that feels luxurious, comfortable, and uniquely suited to the home.

Wall and ceiling finishes can incorporate bespoke fabric-wrapped panels, feature detailing, specialist joinery and concealed technical elements, allowing speakers, acoustic treatment and cabling to disappear into the architecture. Colours, textures and materials are selected to complement the wider interior while also helping to control unwanted light reflections and optimise the viewing experience.

Whether the brief is for a dramatic, traditional cinema or a warmer, more contemporary room, every element can be tailored to create a space that feels designed rather than simply equipped. The room’s acoustics are just as important as the equipment within it. Even the finest loudspeakers cannot perform at their best in a poorly controlled environment.

We consider the room’s dimensions, construction, seating positions and speaker layout to determine the appropriate acoustic treatment and sound isolation. Carefully positioned absorption and diffusion help control reflections, improve dialogue clarity, and create a more balanced, natural soundstage.

Where possible, acoustic treatments are incorporated behind bespoke fabric wall systems and architectural finishes, making them virtually invisible. The result is a quieter, more controlled environment where subtle soundtrack details come through clearly and powerful cinematic moments retain their full impact.
