home cinema bar for added entertainment

What was involved?

This property was being completely renovated and part of those works were the creation of garden room with a dedicated home cinema in Essex.

The clients were huge film enthusiasts and wanted a room that provided a truly cinematic viewing experience.  To achieve this a Sony 4K projector was specified along with a 3.3m wide 2.40:1 acoustically transparent screen.  The audio processing and power amplification was provided by Anthem, the 5.1.4 speaker system was from Paradigm.

One critical design element was the starlight, the client wanted a more immersive cinema experience than traditional starlight ceilings would offer. To achieve this customised fabric panels were created that allowed the starfield to cover the wall and ceiling. Each panel was then side lit with RGBW Linear LED Tape.

One real challenge was the position of the projector. The ideal position was for it to be positioned in a cupboard above the bar area (which is a critical element of any great cinema room!). However the required vertical and horizontal lens shift meant it just wasn’t possible. To resolve the issue a custom housing was manufactured above the door entry into the room.

The whole room is fabric wrapped with acoustically transparent fabric ensuring surround speakers were hidden and suitable absorption & diffusion could be fitted without impacting on the aesthetics of the room.

As mentioned the cinema features a bar creatively hidden away at the back of the room behind 2 fabric wrapped doors.  As the client said “Only one thing beats watching a thrilling film in your own Dolby Atmos cinema room and that is watching a thrilling film in your own Dolby Atmos cinema room with a nice glass of champagne in your hand”

What our client said

“Looking for a dedicated home cinema in Essex. New Wave were extremely helpful in conducting a site visit, listening to our desired theatre requirements, and then offering advice that helped us decide on the best home cinema design for our space.

The proposal was detailed and easy to understand. The install was completed by very knowledgeable engineers, who were very courteous, tidied up after each phase and were great at explaining how the smart system worked.

We also added some smart home elements to the main house as well. Overall very satisfied and will definitely use New Wave for future projects”
