If you’re buying a smart home with an existing Control4 automation system installed, you’re in luck. This will completely transform your living experience. But if you’re not used to a Control4 smart home it may throw you a little bit to start with. So here’s what you need to know.
First and foremost, don’t be worried about the technological systems in your home. The automation systems are designed to make your life easier, so relax and start to explore. Depending on what systems are installed, you might be able to control the heating and lighting with a single tap on your device or using an intuitive interface. There may also be security measures fitted such as doorbell cameras and alarms that can be monitored around the clock – even if you’re out of the country. With smart automation, you can also create specific routines, meaning your house will quite literally wake up as you do. Or you could set the lights to dim at a specific time each day to correspond with your chillout and relaxing hours.
If you’ve other smart gadgets such as an Amazon Echo, you can also talk about getting these connected with a reputable Control4 dealer.
Transfer the Account
When buying a new house with Control4 products already installed, the previous owner’s details may still be on the account. If you’re in contact with the old owner, you can get them to log into their customer account and update the profile with the new customer’s address (that’s yours). You should then receive a new customer email which will direct you to log into the account and set a new password.
If you’re not in contact with the previous homeowner, a Control4 dealer can help you set up the system in your own name and according to your personal preferences.
Find out the Original Installer
If possible, it’s also a good idea to find out who installed the Control4 system as they’ll have a thorough understanding of the work done. They will be able to tell you how old the systems are and whether any of the equipment needs to be replaced or upgraded. A reputable Control4 installer will work alongside you to ensure the home automation system works flawlessly and that you’re familiar with all aspects of it.
Have a Go!
When everything’s set up in your name and working as it should, you can start to have fun. Check out how everything works and start making your own personalisations. Play around with lighting and audio options and even set the shutters to open and close on demand. With Control4, you’ll find everything you need to get started on the Homeowner page, including helpful links to the Startup Guide, Video Tutorials, Contact Information and more.
Good luck! And if you have any concerns about your smart home, a smart home installer such as New Wave AV will be able to help with any questions you might have.
